    22-Aug-2017

AMMAN- HE Dr. Talal Abu-Ghazaleh and Hashemite University President Professor Kamal Al Din Bani Hani signed a cooperation agreement covering number of areas though with a specific focus on training.

The signing ceremony occurred during Dr. Abu-Ghazaleh’s special visit to the University, which also included an interactive panel discussion attended by the University students, which Dr. Abu-Ghazaleh chaired.

Dr. Abu-Ghazaleh expressed his pride in the Hashemite University as it  continues to stand out in various educational, organizational, and community service fields. He highly commended Professor Bani Hani's leadership of this educational institution saying, "I am proud of our partnership as well as earning His Majesty King Abdullah II bin Al Hussein trust being honored with the Order of Independence."

"We will keep on working in accordance with His Majesty's directives, under his wise leadership which has succeeded to keep Jordan stable and safe for his citizens; the matter that makes it easy for all of us to work and exert more efforts to achieve our goals."

Dr. Bani Hani pointed out that the Hashemite University is an extraordinary model among public universities in the Kingdom; this is attributable to its significant achievements, which are considered a quantum leap in the development of the University to be in the ranks of the prestigious international universities.

He underscored the fact that the University has not received any direct financial subsidies from the government for six years, and it enjoys a comfortable financial situation with no debts or budget deficit, unlike most of other public universities. Furthermore, he stated that the University is carrying out major pilot and urban projects valued at JD100 million JD, 86 million out of which are self-financed. These projects include establishing modern classrooms and complexes, as well as high-tech laboratories that serve the educational process.

He stated that the Hashemite University has achieved the best record of academic staff compared to administrative staff among other public Jordanian universities stressing that such figures make the University compete with the most prestigious international ones.

Prof. Bani Hani believes that the secret behind the University’s success is attributed to the good management of available resources and planning which enabled them to execute major and strategic infrastructure and urban projects, besides the development of academic and student leadership through supporting the existing programs of scholarship, scientific research projects, and founding new programs.

In this regard, Prof. Bani Hani stated, "The University allocates nearly JD 2 million for scientific research projects. In the past few years, we allocated 6% out of the University budget for scientific research and scholarships though it should be 5% according to Universities Law. The University also provides material incentives to researchers from the faculty members who publish their researches in scientific magazines, as well as settling the fees of researches publishing in international journals. Moreover, we allocate amounts for improving living conditions of the University staff to achieve job satisfaction at a high rate."

"The Hashemite University examined ways to reduce the cost of the JD 2 million annual electricity bill, and the best solution was to establish a modern solar energy plant to generate electricity. We have already commenced establishing the plant to produce 5 megawatts at a cost of JD 5.5 million. It will produce double the University's needs of electricity."

As for corporate social responsibility, Bani Hani emphasized that the Hashemite University is so keen to play a major role towards Zarqa Governorate residents and the local community by holding training courses, activities, events, and many other numerous distinctive services provided to the local community.

Pertaining to the MoU, it was agreed that teams of both parties will discuss means and mechanisms of cooperation to provide training services, to designate the Hashemite University as a center for training and examinations of Talal Abu-Ghazaleh International Diploma in IT Skills, and to consider means of establishing a fully equipped Talal Abu-Ghazaleh Knowledge Center at the premises of the Hashemite University. The two parties will also examine means of cooperation in launching E-marketing diplomas, pre-service teachers qualification, and educational diploma for teachers in-service (Diploma of Education).

The MoU also takes into account the launching of Information and Communication Technology Diploma and Talal Abu-Ghazaleh Bachelor of International Accounting in addition to holding professional and training courses in the area of creativity and innovation. Additionally, the two parties agreed to establish cooperation channels in the field of auditing, accounting, intellectual property rights, and trademark registration.

"The Future of Education in the World"

In a panel discussion entitled "The Future of Education in the World" organized by the University and moderated by Prof. Musleh Al Najjar, Assistant to the President of the University, Dr. Abu-Ghazaleh underlined the fact that women are the core element in the process of development and that they largely contribute to the gross domestic product (GDP) as they constitute half of the society and give birth to the other half.

Dr. Abu-Ghazaleh stressed that all countries struggle to dominate this region as they are fully aware that the future lies here; not only our future but the future of the whole world. He confirmed that this region will be the source of science, innovation, and civilization as it used to be in the past.

He addressed the students saying that there is no future for individuals without acquiring the tools of knowledge. "Studying, success, and excellence are not enough to compete in the labor market. The real future lies in transforming all businesses of different disciplines to digital as future will be only for knowledge."

Dr. Abu-Ghazaleh pointed out that Abu-Ghazaleh Intellectual Property (AGIP) has been ranked No.(1) in the world for adopting the trend to be a digital and knowledgeable company in all its activities. He called on students to face challenges and pursue their ambitions and dreams without waiting for support from any other party since creativity, excellence, and innovation can only be achieved by the person himself/herself.
